Mr. Sam Zhang, Director of the Zhuhai Tourism Bureau announced at the press conference today that the romantic city Zhuhai will host its first International Half Marathon on Sunday 22nd February, 2009.
The 1st Zhuhai Half Marathon is undertaken by the Macau based company Upward Bound Unlimited (UBU) in conjunction with the Holiday Inn Zhuhai and organizers anticipate over 1000 runners for their 1st event with entries already received from Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Taiwan and Japan.
Robert Kirby CEO of UBU commented at the press conference, “the City of Zhuhai has all of the requirements to host a very successful marathon event; a supportive Government and Tourism Bureau; a charming, romantic and environmentally green city; a scenic half marathon course that runners and friendly residents will be fond of." Mr. Kirby also mentioned that in addition to the half marathon course, they would also offer a “10K Romantic Fun Run” along the same course with the finish on the Lovers Road for runners requiring a shorter distance.
Mr. Kirby is a marathon runner himself and has competed in marathon events in Xiamen, Beijing, Shanghai and Qingdao. He thinks Zhuhai has the potential to offer one of the best marathon events in China. A full marathon course (42K) is planned to be added in 2011.

珠海旅遊局局長張梅生先生今天在新聞發佈會上宣佈，浪漫之城珠海將於2009年2月22日星期天舉行首屆半程馬拉松賽事。
第一屆珠海半程馬拉松賽事由澳門登峰有限公司（UBU）聯合珠海假日酒店承辦。基於目前來自澳門、香港、上海、臺灣及新加坡、日本報名的人數，預計將有1000多人參與賽事。
登峰有限公司總裁高朗弼先生在新聞發佈會上說表示，“珠海具備舉辦成功馬拉松賽事的所有需條件，由於得到珠海市政府及珠海旅遊局之鼎力支持，加上珠海是一個浪漫及綠化的魅力之城，半程馬拉松賽道景色優美，必能吸引長跑愛好者和友好的當地市民齊來參與。”除半程馬拉松賽道外，高先生表示，針對短距離長跑愛好者，籌委會還將沿半程馬拉松賽道推出“10公里浪漫趣跑”，終點設在情人路上。
高朗弼先生自己就是一位馬拉松長跑愛好者，曾參加過廈門、北京、上海和青島的馬拉松長跑。他認為，珠海馬拉松賽事具備能成為中國最佳馬拉松賽事之一的潛力。組織方計畫將于2011年舉辦全程馬拉松（42公里）賽事。
